Does Bristol have a Beach?
Bristol doesn’t have a beach of its own, as it’s an inland city, but there are several coastal spots within easy reach. A short drive will take you to a mix of sandy and pebbly shores, perfect for a day by the sea. Whether you're looking for traditional seaside attractions, scenic coastal walks, or a quiet stretch of shoreline, there are plenty of beaches around Bristol. However, West Country Water Park is ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, or SUP yoga.
Severn Beach Bristol
The closest beach to Bristol is Severn Beach. It is next to the Prince of Wales Bridge (the Severn Crossing). Severn Beach is only a 25-minute drive from the hotel. The shingle beach has views of the South Wales coastline and Bristol coast, and there is a flat pathway perfect for walking on, too.
Clevedon Beach Bristol
From Future Inn Bristol, Clevedon Beach is a 30-minute drive. The nearest beach to Bristol is backed with a promenade, the sand and pebble beach overlooks the Bristol Channel. You can even stroll along the Grade I listed pier for a small fee. A short walk from the beach is an ornamental garden and Victorian bandstand, plus the Clevedon Marine Lake, where you can swim, sail and canoe.
Portishead Beach
Portishead is a coastal town within the Severn Estuary, just 5-minutes from the M5 motorway. It is a sandstone and mudstone shingle beach which is backed by low cliffs. Adjacent to the beach is an artificial lake and a small park. Portishead Beach is a 30-minute drive from Future Inns.
Weston Super Mare Beach
One of the longest naturally occurring beaches in the UK is Weston-Super-Mare. It's one of the best sandy beaches near Bristol. From Future Inns, the beach is a 45-minute drive. You can’t leave without paying a visit to the iconic Grand Pier, with everything from arcade machines to thrilling rides and stunning views.
Sand Bay Beach
Sand Bay Beach, located just north of Weston-super-Mare, is a peaceful and unspoiled stretch of coastline known for its wide, flat sands and scenic views. Backed by dunes and grassy areas, it offers a more tranquil alternative to busier nearby beaches, making it ideal for long walks, picnics, and birdwatching. It is a 47-minute drive from Future Inns.
Brean Beach
Just two miles from Weston-Super-Mare is the seven-mile beach and dunes of Brean. If you are feeling energetic, there are over 100 steps to climb up to a high ‘natural pier’ with exquisite 360-degree views over North Somerset and the Bristol Channel. Brean Beach is an hour’s drive from the hotel. Not as popular as its nearby counterpart, it's known as one of the hidden beaches near Bristol.
Burnham-On-Sea Beach
Burnham-On-Sea is a classic seaside resort. You’ll find brilliant stretches of sandy beach here, so it's one of the best swimming beaches near Bristol. It is complete with a promenade, and there is a famous pier too – which is the shortest in Britain. From Future Inn Bristol is a 50 minute drive.
Berrow Beach
Berrow Beach, located on the Somerset coast, is a stunning stretch of sandy shoreline known for its vast open space and natural beauty. Part of the Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve, it offers scenic coastal views, sand dunes, and plenty of room for walking, horse riding, and even beach fishing. At low tide, the sea retreats far out, revealing the famous shipwreck of the SS Nornen, which ran aground in 1897. The beach is a 53 minutes drive from Future Inns.
