Taste of Wales Afternoon Tea in Cardiff Bay - Te Blas Cymru Y Prynhawn Yng Nghaerdydd
The highly popular dining attraction can now be enjoyed in Thomas Restaurant at Future Inn Cardiff
Afternoon Tea Cardiff Bay
We like to do it a bit different from the rest, and so we guarantee a Taste of Wales with our afternoon tea selection. The Welsh word for taste is Blas, and our amazing chefs certainly bring you that, producing distinct and authentic flavours. We think we have the best afternoon tea in Cardiff. The chefs have recreated the traditional afternoon tea menu of delicious finger sandwiches, mouth-watering homemade cakes and handmade scones with lashings of cream and fruit jam, by adding a truly Welsh twist.
The Taste of Wales Afternoon Tea is served with unlimited servings of tea or coffee, but we highly recommend continuing the theme with Welsh Brew Loose Leaf Tea. You can also add on a glass of bubbles, prosecco or even a cocktail. All of our dishes are homemade on site. We use local and fresh produce to give you a true Taste of Wales.
Please note, during December, Afternoon Tea is replaced with our Festive Afternoon Tea Offer

What are the different types of afternoon tea?
Often, customers are unsure of what is included in an afternoon tea or will use the wrong name, as each one has a different meaning. We thought we would help to clear things up:
What is in a traditional afternoon tea?
Traditional afternoon tea consists of a selection of dainty finger sandwiches and is served alongside a scone or two with clotted cream and jam, plus a variety of cakes and sometimes sweet pastries.
What is high tea?
It is believed high tea came from the fact that it was eaten at a table, usually by the upper classes, rather than comfortable chairs or sofas. These days, high tea is often a traditional afternoon tea served with prosecco or champagne, sometimes known as a sparkling afternoon tea. Also, it is more likely to be served with more savoury items such as mini pies, cheese and meats, or crackers.
What is a cream tea?
The name originates from Devon and Cornwall, and the name has stuck. It is merely a scone or two served with a fresh pot of tea. All you need to decide is if you are going to put the jam or clotted cream on first? Those in Devon typically spread the clotted cream first followed by jam, the Cornish tradition is to spread jam first followed by the cream.
Can I book an afternoon tea for a birthday, hen party or baby shower?
Our popular birthday, bridal and baby shower packages are very on-trend. You can choose to celebrate in the restaurant or in a private room. For larger groups, the afternoon tea may be served buffet style, but it will bring a level of elegance and sophistication to your event.
