St Fagan's National History Museum

Explore the Museum of Welsh Life in Cardiff

St Fagans is a charming village located in Cardiff, known for its rich history and cultural heritage. One of its most notable features is the St Fagans National Museum of History, an open-air museum that showcases Welsh life through the ages. The museum is set in a picturesque parkland with over 50 historic buildings, including farmhouses, a Victorian school, and a traditional Welsh chapel, all relocated from different parts of Wales.

Commonly referred to as St Fagans after St Fagans Village, where it is located, it is an open-air museum where you will find centuries of Wales’ social history gathered together in 100 acres of beautiful countryside, situated in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle and gardens, a late 16th-century manor house.

Explore over forty original buildings from different historical periods which have been re-erected in the 100-acre parkland, among them houses, a farm, a school, a chapel, a pub, a splendid Workmen's Institute and other historic buildings. Experience one of the live workshops where craftsmen still demonstrate their traditional skills with a working blacksmith forge, pottery, weaver, miller and clog maker.  Part of St Fagans Museum includes a small working farm that preserves local Welsh native breeds.
