City Breaks in Cardiff for Disabled People
Cardiff is the ideal location for people with disabilities or reduced mobility and those using wheelchairs. Our accessible hotel rooms and disabled facilities offer a comfortable stay with various accessories to accommodate different needs. Check out the facilities at our hotel in Cardiff Bay.
Throughout, we use the terms disabled people and disabled customers to refer to people who identify themselves as deaf, disabled, or neurodiverse. We also use the term people with accessibility requirements as a broad term to refer to anyone who would benefit from accessibility provisions, regardless of whether they relate to being disabled or not. Accessibility involves removing barriers to provide positive experiences for all.
Getting Around
South Wales is accessible to all visitors, and there's plenty to explore in Cardiff. Whether you're visiting for a day, staycation or holiday, there's a varied selection of disabled-friendly places to stay, suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
Cardiff is compact and, for the most part, accessible for wheelchair users. Because of its size, it's easy to get around. Cardiff city centre is pedestrianised. The public transport network includes accessible buses and trains, including Cardiff Central Rail Station, Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Bay. Cardiff is also one of the flattest cities in Britain and has more green space per person than any other UK core city.
Things to See and Do
In Cardiff Centre, you'll find well-known high-street brands, large shopping centres, and historic arcades. You can sample local produce, rummage through unique crafts and immerse yourself in the quirkiness of small businesses.
Cardiff is rich in architecture, history and culture. In the heart of the city centre is Cardiff Castle. Nearby you can explore the National Museum of Wales, the Principality Stadium (previously known as the Millennium Stadium) or see a concert at the Utilia Arena (previously known as the Motorpoint Arena or Cardiff International Arena).
Catch a show at the Wales Millennium Centre, a 10-minute walk from our modern hotel in Cardiff Bay. As the official hotel partner, you can get 20% off bed and breakfast when you have booked your tickets. All venues are accessible, and the people of Cardiff are friendly and willing to help.
Where to Enjoy Food and Drink
Foodies and party-goers will love Cardiff. With such a diverse population, world cuisine follows. You name it, there's probably a restaurant serving it. You can enjoy restaurants, cafes, fast food, street food, and dessert-only hangouts.
Thomas Restaurant at Future Inns serves British food and contemporary and traditional Welsh cuisine. Throughout the menu, the mouth-watering dishes use local fresh ingredients and produce. Try a Glamorgan sausage (cheese and leek) at breakfast, a Welsh cawl (lamb stew) at lunch or a Celtic pride burger for dinner. Not forgetting the iconic Taste of Wales afternoon tea.
The open-plan restaurant is found on the ground floor, so no ramps or alternative routes are needed. There is booth seating and tables where a chair can be easily removed for a wheelchair. Free parking and blue badge parking can be found directly in front of the restaurant. Admittedly, there is no disabled toilet in the restaurant; however, there is one in the conference corridor next to the other bathrooms. This is a short distance away.
Accessible Hotels Cardiff
Let's start with your arrival at our Cardiff hotel. As one of the Cardiff hotels with parking, the car park is large and flat, with limited blue badge parking in front of the hotel. However, there are 220 parking spaces in total. Getting into the building is easy, as there are no steps or ramps to compete with. Once in the building, there are lifts to all the floors. These are large, and the wide corridors allow you to easily navigate.
There are two types of accessible bedrooms to choose from. An accessible double room with an option to add a sofa bed or an accessible twin room with two large queen-sized beds. As a wheelchair-accessible hotel in Cardiff, within the room, you can expect ample turning spaces. Rooms also have everything you would expect of a 4-star hotel at an exceptional value for money. With tea and coffee-making facilities, a flat-screen TV, free WiFi, free parking and electric car charging.
Your room also includes a complimentary robe and slippers, plus home-away-from-home services like our guest laundry room, ice buckets, and an ice machine. You can also use Simply Gym (which is also accessible), situated at the Red Dragon Centre across from the hotel. 24-hour room service is also available.
For guests with hearing aids or cochlear implants, our hotel has hearing loops in designated areas to enhance auditory accessibility during your stay. A vibrating pillow can be provided for guests who are deaf. These pillow alarms are designed for people with hearing impairments and will alert guests and visitors in the building to evacuate if the fire alarm is activated.
In the private bathroom, there are walk-in showers with grab rails and an emergency cord. The sink has been lowered, as well as the towel rail and shelving where we put your complimentary toiletries to keep things within easy reach.

Don't take our word for it. Here's what previous guests have said:
We came up to see Wicked at Wales Millennium Centre. This is now the only hotel I want to stay in when we go to shows down in the bay. The facilities for disabled people are far superior. We need room for an electric wheelchair and mobility scooter. The room we stayed in must have been a family room as it had a double bed and a sofa but there was so much room room even with our contraptions. There was also a high and low sink which I’ve not seen in hotel rooms before, giving my husband easy access to the sick as in other hotels the sink is up too high for him, but too low for me, so this was perfect. The breakfast is outstanding with the best selection I’ve seen. The staff are finally what gives my full rating. They can’t do enough to help you. Every time I’ve passed they have said good morning or good evening. Down at breakfast they are there by my side asking if they can help me as I have to walk on crutches (and crutch’s plus a plate of food and walking = a bit of a car crash). So Thank You Future Inn Cardiff. I can’t wait to stay with you again Welsh Witch
Extremely satisfied customers! Excellent accommodation. The accessible room was very big with 2 double beds, amazing. The bathroom was perfect, plenty of room, 2 sinks at different heights and a fantastic shower. The emergency cord was in a very good place, easy to get to if required. The cord itself was trailing the floor just as it should be, not tied to anything, not out of reach and not hidden behind the toilet, which I have seen in some places. The staff were professional, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The catering staff were so helpful at breakfast, they could not do enough for us. The standard and choice of food could not be faulted. The hotel is perfect for our needs and we will definitely visit again. Thank you for a great stay. KathMbr
Short stay in Cardiff, clean well presented hotel with good disabled rooms, easy online booking just select accessible room when booking. On site restaurant good quality food. Breakfast is a buffet. Building entrance door is not automatic but staff are helpful. Recommended. GaitAtaxiaTraveller
Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay at Future Inn Cardiff. Very well appointed twin room and, being disabled, the easy access shower was such a help. Good breakfast and staff were available to meet any special requests. A most enjoyable experience and will, hopefully, stay again. aj0nes83
Excellent room facilities, large spacious room two double beds with accessible wet room. Restaurant and bar prices are very reasonable with good service. Would definitely stay again. Dan and Moo
An accessible room that really was accessible! 1st time in Future Inns and won't be the last. One of the best accessible rooms I've ever stayed in with a proper disabled shower with a seat and not a low bath with a shower over like some other hotel accessible rooms. The staff were so friendly and everything was spotless. Gildav1907
Very pleased to have discovered this hotel This was our first time to a Future Hotel and after this trip would definitely use them again if there's one available. We had a disabled adapted room. It was very well equipped with wide doors, wet room, low sink etc. The room was slightly isolated from the noisier rooms, thankfully. Some items are included where they are often chargeable such as bottled water. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. There's tons of complimentary parking, but remember to record your car details. The breakfast was very good. graham_ward
Lovely hotel all the staff where very helpful and attentive. We requested an accessible room as my partner is disabled, and we could not fault this. Breakfast is buffet style and there's plenty of it! Lovely white soft robes and slippers in the room for our use which was a nice surprise. A great hotel with attentive staff and good food what more could you ask for. 28elainen
