Best Accessible Hotel in Plymouth

Plymouth is the ideal location for people with disabilities, reduced mobility and those using wheelchairs. Our accessible rooms and disabled access offer a comfortable stay with various accessories to accommodate different needs.

If you're looking for an accessible hotel, check out Future Inn Plymouth.

Throughout, we use the terms disabled people and disabled customers to refer to people who identify themselves as deaf, disabled, or neurodiverse. We also use the term people with accessibility requirements as a broad term to refer to anyone who would benefit from accessibility provisions, regardless of whether they relate to being disabled or not. Accessibility involves removing barriers to provide positive experiences for all.

Plymouth is accessible to all visitors, and there's plenty to explore. There's a varied selection of disabled-friendly places to stay, suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.

Plymouth has also been praised for its accessible blue badge parking, which has almost double the national average of other English cities. There are also dementia parking bays, and Plymouth Council is looking to expand support to hidden disabilities.

Best Wheelchair Accessible Hotel in Plymouth

Let's start with your arrival. The car park is large and flat, with limited blue badge parking in front of the hotel. However, there are 172 parking spaces in total. Getting into the building is easy, as there are no steps or ramps to compete with. Once in the building, there are lifts to all the floors. These are large, and the wide corridors and doors allow you to navigate easily.

There are two types of accessible bedrooms to choose from. An accessible double room with an option to add a sofa bed or an accessible twin room with two large queen-sized beds. Within the room, you can expect ample turning spaces for wheelchair users. Rooms also have everything you would expect when booking accessible hotel rooms at an exceptional value for money. With tea and coffee making facilities, a flat-screen TV, free WiFi and free parking. If required, there are trollies for your luggage

There's also a complimentary robe and slippers in your room, plus home away from home services like our guest laundry room, ice buckets, and ice machine, which you can help yourself to. There is also free entry to our small exercise room. 24-hour room service is also available.

For guests with hearing aids or cochlear implants, our hotel has hearing loops in designated areas to enhance auditory accessibility during your stay. A vibrating pillow can be provided for guests who are deaf. These pillow alarms are designed for people with hearing impairments and will alert guests and visitors in the building to evacuate if the fire alarm is activated.

The private bathroom has walk-in showers with grab rails and an emergency cord. The sink, towel rail and shelving have been lowered. Here, you'll find complimentary toiletries and space to keep your things within easy reach.

How Accessible is Plymouth?

Getting Around

Plymouth, for the most part, is accessible for disabled people and wheelchair users. Because of its size, it's easy to get around. Plymouth city centre and Plymouth Hoe is pedestrianised. The public transport network includes accessible buses and trains. Some of the Citybus routes offer low-level access.

Things to See and Do

You'll find well-known high street brands and large shopping centres such as Drake Circus. You can sample local produce, rummage through unique crafts and immerse yourself in the quirkiness of small businesses. Shopmobility scooters and wheelchairs are available to hire around Plymouth City Centre.

Plymouth is rich in history and culture. You can explore the National Marine AquariumMayflower MuseumPlymouth Gin or see a show in the Plymouth Pavilions. As well as some nearby National Trust properties. All venues are accessible.

Boat trips are also on the cards. Get out on the water on cruise vessels; the 'Spirit of Plymouth' and 'Plymouth Venturer' are wheelchair accessible. Plus, have disabled access toilets. Boats go from The Barbican or Royal William Yard, and trips go to Mount Edgcumbe, Drake's Island and beyond.

Where to Enjoy Food and Drink

Foodies will love Plymouth. You can enjoy restaurants, cafes, fast food and street food. Local delicacies include Devon blue cheese, Plymouth Gin, fresh fish caught at The Barbican, English muffins and clotted cream.

Fishbone Restaurant at Future Inns serves British food and fresh seafood. Throughout the menu, the mouth-watering dishes use local fresh ingredients and produce. Try the red wine poached pear with Devon blue cheese, candied walnuts and port syrup (v) (gf) to start, and the local catch of the day in our light beer batter served with mushy peas, chunky chips and tartare sauce for the main meal.

The open-plan restaurant is on the ground floor, so no ramps or alternative routes are needed. There is booth seating and tables where a chair can be easily removed for a wheelchair. Free parking and blue badge parking can be found directly in front of the restaurant. Admittedly, there is no accessible toilet in the restaurant; however, there is one in the conference corridor next to the other bathrooms. This is a short distance away.
